HUNTING/FISHING/WILDLIFE IN JEFFERSON COUNTY
ROCK CREEK STATION STATE HISTORICAL PARK
Along with all of the history, visitors are able to camp, they can go hiking on several miles of trails, and there is both wooded areas and prairie that allows for plenty of bird watching. Visitors can also see the ruts where the wagons from the Oregon and California trails once traveled.
LITTLE BLUE RIVER TRAIL
Starting at the old dam site on south C Street in Fairbury, walkers can proceed to the Fairbury City Park or strike out across the old Rock Island Railroad Bridge and through the Flathead Wildlife Management Area, operated by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Funded by federal, state, and city grants, it was the project of a citizen’s committee. 402-729-2148
FLATHEAD WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA
Located 1 mile south of Fairbury along the banks of the Little Blue River, Flathead Wildlife Management Area has 250 acres of heavily-wooded areas. No open fires. Open year-round, dawn-dusk. ALEXANDRIA LAKES WMA/SRA
Located 2 miles east and ½ mile south of Alexandria in NW Jefferson County, Alexandria Lakes Wildlife Management Area has 660 acres of wetlands, cropland, wooded areas and prairie grassland ideal for hiking, bird watching, horseback riding, hunting and primitive camping. Located 1/2 mile south and 1 mile east of Alexandria in NW Jefferson County, Alexandria Southwest Wildlife Management Area has 529 acres of wetlands, cropland, wooded areas and prairie grassland ideal for hiking, bird watching, horseback riding, hunting and primitive camping.
